Back to Basics: Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque

Every month, without fail my body goes through hormonal changes and my skin will start to break out. Ladies, I’m sure you know what I am talking about. I try to pay close attention to my skin around this time before I get actual pimples. Since I have super oily skin, I usually apply some kind of mask, or make sure I remove every ounce of makeup at night. Sometimes, I will skip foundation altogether.

Today, I decided to go back to basics and use the Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask ($6.50). This is not a new product by any means (and oh so budget friendly) and has been sitting on my shelf forever. But since I am such a product junkie, sometimes the stuff that actually works gets pushed to the back.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask

The mask is pretty self explanatory; just slap it on, leave it for around 15 minutes and wash it off.

Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask- So thick!
Have a cup of coffee, you’ve got 15 minutes.

I actually left the mask on for 20-25 minutes. There was no particular reason for this, that’s just how long it took for me to drink a cup of coffee.

As you can see the mask is very thick in consistency. I squeezed it out of the tube with one hand and applied it on my face with the other. I did it this way because you really have to squeeze it pretty hard to get it out of the tube and your other hand will be covered in the product. And to avoid getting it all over the tube I use only one hand when applying.

I love the smell of the mask. I am a bourbon girl, so naturally I like mint juleps (tee hee) but this smells just like spearmint gum! Is there anyone in the world that doesn’t like the smell of spearmint gum?

Once the mask is on, there is a cooling and tightening sensation. It’s almost as if you can literally feel the oil seeping out of your face. After the desired time, I washed it off with warm water, and wiped off the excess with a damp washcloth. Finally, I completely dried my face and applied my Alpha Hydrox AHA Souffle.

The question is, does it do, what it says it does?

Does it dry up acne and pimples? OH, YES!

Does it rinse away blackheads? SOMEWHAT

Does it shrink enlarged pores? ABSOLUTELY!

I highly recommend this product!
