How To: Match Your Lace Wig or Closure to your Skin Color (NO BLEACHING!)

Monday, January 05, 2015

What you'll need:

  • Concealer
  • Concealer brush
  • Setting/foundation powder
  • Powder brush
  • Hairspray

Step 1:

Figure out where you want your part. I normally enjoy side parts, but thought I would try something different with a middle part. Make sure you flatten or brush down all the stray hairs. Apply a small amount of concealer to your concealer brush and dab it down the part. Blend it into the lace. Reapply until the entire part has concealer on it. You don't need a lot to achieve this, so don't use a heavy hand.
Why use concealer? Most of the time, the concealer should be a shade lighter than your skin color, just as your natural scalp is. Therefore, whatever concealer you normally use should work perfectly for your lace.

Step 2:

Turn the wig inside out to expose the inside lace. Using your powder brush, apply your setting powder or powder foundation to the lace at the front of the wig. This should go all the way to where your part ends, as well as the are around it. Next, turn the wig back on the hair side and set the concealer with the powder. It will naturally get on the hair but don't worry about this, once you apply the hairspray, it dissolves.

Don't worry abut the powder on the lace. This will disappear.

Step 3:

Repeat Step 2 once more. You should be satisfied with the color at this point.

Step 4:

Spray the inside of the wig with the hairspray, the spray the hairspray directly on the part. The excess powder should be gone at this point.

And you're done! Now have a look at before and after pics:
