YSL 2017 Chinese New Year Blush Palette Review

I decided to grab YSL’s Chinese New Year Blush palette because I had nothing to lose (except $47.00) and I need all the luck I can get for 2017! The packaging is what really drew me in. I really love the red clashing nicely against the gold. The palette is made of a combination of some lightweight metal, which I suspect is aluminum, and the inside of he palette surrounding the powder appears to be plastic. It has a light fragrance to it, but doesn’t transfer over to your skin.

My skin type

Very oily. I’ve got some acne scars and larger-than-normal sized pores (in my opinion) on my cheeks. Every now and again, I get a few pimples but its mostly hormonal.

What it’s supposed to do

Hug my cheeks with a wash of color that would make me look like a rosy cheeked baby. 😚

The palette is supposed to be a throwback to YSL’s 1977 collection. While the palette is limited edition, the blush is YSL’s Blush Volupte N6 and is permanent.

How I use it

The blush is not very pigmented but it is buildable. When I swatched it on my arm, it didn’t look like much; I had already suspected the blush would either be too cool for my skin or wouldn’t show up. But once I used a powder brush with it and dusted it across my cheeks, it showed up on me effortlessly. I used about three layers — a lot less than I thought I would need — to get it to the coverage in the photos.

You can use the shimmer portion of the blush as a highlight on it’s own but you’d need to use a smaller brush to ensure you didn’t grab any of the blush; you can also use the blush on its own, which is easier to maneuver. I end up using them both together, but applying the highlight on my cheekbones and nose.

Performance

The blush lasts six hours on me before I need to get rid of the oil that has accumulated on my face. Once I brush loose powder on my face, the already subtle color has substantially faded to almost nothing. I don’t generally carry blush with me in my makeup bag, but I’m going to carry this one around for luck and because it’s got a great mirror. I will also mention that it doesn’t accentuate my pores.

If you have dry or normal skin I can see this blush being a number one favorite.

Awesome. I'm asian but grew up in Canada. It's so nice to see other cultures showing an interest in Chinese New Year. πŸ™‚ I really like your blog. You've mentioned the "bags under your eyes" a few times in your blog entries. You have beautiful eyes and my sister would kill for the "smile eyes" that you have. My sister says that when someone has that "roll" beneath their eyes, esp. when they smile, it makes them look very "friendly" and "approachable". It's the "smile eyes".
