Burberry Liquid Lip Velvets | Brilliant Violet | Oxblood

I know I said I was going to chill on liquid lipsticks, but there was something about the Burberry Liquid Lip Velvets that I just couldn’t get my mind off of. It might have been the high marks and praise they received from Temptalia, or just the fact that I don’t think I own any makeup from Burberry and thought this was a good lead into the brand. I’ve lusted after their products before, but the price tag usually gives me a fright. At $34 each, and my weakness for liquid lipsticks, I went ahead and got two of these, Brilliant Violet and Oxblood.

My skin type

My lips are pretty dry on their own. I’ve got a healthy addiction to lip balm, that only makes my lips thirstier 😊

The Formula

The formula is the cushiony, mousse-like formula, similar to Ciate, Stila, Huda Beauty, and Too Faced. It’s got the perfect texture and consistency: not too thick, not too thin. On it’s own, it doesn’t make my lips feel dry and doesn’t ever crack. I did find that piling it on isn’t the best idea, as it can look clumpy.

How I use it

I tested these with and without lip balm. They aren’t drying at all but not particularly moisturizing either. I still prefer to use lip balm beforehand. As far as application, Oxblood went on completely opaque and you really only need one swipe for each lip. Brilliant Violet was nearly opaque, but I found I needed a second layer to make it completely opaque on my already very pigmented lips.

Performance

The liquid lipsticks are really good. Burberry claims they last up to 8 hours, but both of these last much longer than that on me. I also love that they leave a stain behind. These dry down semi-matte in my opinion, and they do transfer. I love the little sheen than Oxblood has and neither of these accentuate my dry and peeling lips! You can reapply right over the old without any problems. I say splurge and get a couple of these! These are great for people who like liquid lipsticks but take issue with the drying nature of them. Also, the packaging is just so luxurious, even the cardboard box it comes in.
