Is Makeup Revolution Luxury Banana Powder a Ben Nye Banana Powder Dupe?

I am  in love with Ben Nye Banana Powder. Strangely, I haven’t reviewed it. A product already having so many reviews has never stopped me from reviewing it, but Ben Nye’s banana powder has a lot of reviews (I have Topaz too but it’s too orange for me and I hate it). One kind of meh thing about Ben Nye’s Banana Powder is that I find it awfully hard to come by (and by hard I mean it’s just not as available as other brands), reputably that is. So when I saw that Makeup Revolution was introducing its version of the luxury powder to the world for $8.00, I swooped it up!

My skin type

Oily, sometimes overwhelmingly so. Dark acne scarring on cheeks and chin; enlarged pores/ice pick scars on cheeks.

What it’s supposed to do

“Warm” skin, mattify, set foundation, correct red and pink undertones.

Ingredients

Talc, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Methylparaben, Propylparaben. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492).

How I use it

As someone that loves Ben Nye’s banana powder, I use it the exact same way. I use an angled brush with a flat top like this one to set my under-eye concealer, and apply to the middle of my chin and forehead. It seemed like it would be perfect for my oily skin!

What I like about it

It does what it says it’s supposed to do. What I like about the Ben Nye Banana Powder is that it brightens and mattifies without the powder being too obvious. The Makeup Revolution powder definitely brightens and mattifies. I don’t typically experience redness unless I have used acids or an unruly zit, but my concealer and foundation covers that up.

What could be better

I think it’s too cool for my skin tone. It’s a lot more white than the Ben Nye banana powder. I have yellow undertones and the Ben Nye version is perfect for that. I think the Makeup Revolution Banana Powder would work for those with a less warm complexion. This powder appears to be the only color available in the range. Makeup Revolution should offer different shades of the powder for those that this is too cool for.

So to make a long story short, nah son. This isn’t a dupe for Ben Nye’s Banana Powder.

Joy Factor

On a scale of 1-10, this powder is a 3. I still use it because I don’t want to waste it and it’s going to take me forever to run out of it, but I do so with caution and with a very light hand.

Sounds like I really should go for this one. I recently did my Spring make-up lessons so I need to practice a lot to improve my skills.
