Supergoop But First, Sunscreen Kit

Starting next week, it’s officially going to start feeling more like summer spring (and I’m sooo ready!). What better way get ready for it by talking about sunscreen?! Supergoop sent over their But First, Sunscreen Kit for me to try and it did not disappoint. The kit comes in a nifty little pouch and includes three handy, travel-sized sunscreens in three different formulas: The Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40, the Super Power Sunscreen Mousse SPF 50, and the Defense Refresh Setting Mist.

My skin type

I’ve got oily skin and sunscreen is a great way to chime that oil down for me. I also don’t use sunscreen as much as I should (I don’t use it at all in the winter unless I’ve been using acids) and this kit certainly encourages you to do that. I’ve got fading acne scars on my cheeks, which would probably fade faster if I used sunscreen everyday!

What it’s supposed to do

Protect your face and body from the ravages of the sun! I’ve got a love-like relationship with the sun. Yes, you read that correctly. I’ll take summer over winter or fall any day. But I am also wary of the sun after my first and last sunburn/sun poisoning episode a few years back. I learned the hard way that dark skin does in fact sunburn and I don’t bask in the sun anymore with sun protection.

Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40

  • No smell
  • It’s meant as a primer before makeup, or you can wear it on its own for a smoother appearance.
  • It’s got a gel-like formula, so no white cast (it’s a bit yellow in color)

Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50

  • Smells like spearmint
  • Actually mists instead of sprays. Hooray!
  • Can be used to set makeup or on its own

  • Is slightly moisturizing (but still use lotion)
  • Meant for the body but can be used on the face

How I use it

I use the Unseen Sunscreen as recommended, as a primer under my foundation; I use the Setting Mist both by itself after cleansing and my skincare routine and also to “set” my makeup; I use the Sunscreen Mousse on my body. A couple things here:

  • I previously reviewed the Rosemary Defense Refresh Setting Mist and liked it a lot. The issue I had with it, which I don’t experience with this one, was the nozzle spraying my face too heavily and the rosemary. This one sprays like a mist – I am so happy about that – and smells like spearmint.
  • I tested the Sunscreen Mousse on my forearm and found that if I did not apply lotion beforehand, the Sunscreen Mousse left my arm feeling somewhat dry and itchy; the top layer of my skin felt moisturized – slightly oily – but underneath felt strangely dry. I did not feel the itching sensation when I used this on my legs, though. I don’t usually leave the house without applying lotion to my entire body, but I know some people think that’s madness lol. If you have drier skin, I recommend using lotion before using this sunscreen mousse. I did not use this on my face.

What I like about it

What I love most about the products, really the brand, is that they  make it so easy to use sunscreen and to want to use sunscreen. The Unseen Sunscreen Primer is definitely something I am drawn to because a lot of brands have not mastered the no white cast thing. I’m not judging, I’m just saying the chances of me purchasing a sunscreen that leaves a white cast is very low and its one of the first things I look for when I am shopping for sunscreen. None of these three products leave a white cast on my skin. The primer works as a nice base for makeup and doesn’t pill. Another plus! Everything is just so easy to use and the brand really makes you use sunscreen properly; in theory, you’re supposed to reapply sunscreen every few hours. The Defense Refresh Mist is great for this. If I start to get oily, I can just touch up my foundation and spray my face and bam! I am pretty and protected!

Another appeal is the mousse; I like everything in mousse form (except chocolate 🙁)! I like that the Sunscreen Mousse isn’t just a boring old liquid sunscreen. It dissolves quickly after rubbing in and the scent withers away after about 10 minutes.

Lastly, the packaging is great. I love the little holographic pouch, and I like that these are small enough to take to the pool or the beach without taking up loads of space in your bag!

What could be better

These are great! Easy to travel with, which is totally ideal, have high SPF, and doesn’t leave white cast! I don’t have any complaints but if I was nitpicking, I’d say I’d prefer the Sunscreen Mousse and the Setting Mist didn’t have a scent. Both vanish in a matter of minutes so it’s not a big problem for me 🤷

I have “Pinned” this for future reference. I need to do so much better about consistently applying sunscreen, especially with this desert heat on the way. I’m going to see if I can get this kit in a Sephora around here. I’d like to have something I can carry around in my purse.
