Hourglass Veil Translucent Setting Powder is Heavenly on Dark Skin!

What’s the first under-eye setting powder you have ever used? For me, and probably a lot of people, it was Ben Nye’s Banana Powder. Ben has gotten so much play because it turns out, it is really hard to duplicate what he has done. Hourglass’s Translucent Setting Powder is not a dupe, but it does set my concealer and highlight my under-eye area in quite the classy way. I’ve had this powder for so long and would not hesitate to repurchase it, in the full size. What you see here is the mini size, as I wasn’t sure how this would turn out on me; I have been burned by yellow setting powder before!

My skin type

Oily and imperfect. I have somewhat prominent eye bags and concealer and setting powder makes them look a helluva lot better.

What it’s supposed to do

From the brand: The magic of Veil transformed into an ultra-refined loose powder designed to give skin a naturally flawless finish. This finely-milled, weightless powder is formulated with soft-focus light-reflecting particles to instantly blur imperfections and minimize the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles for effortlessly smooth skin. The translucent formula can be used on all skin tones for an invisible, natural skin finish.

Ingredients

Mica, Synthetic Sapphire, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Boron Nitride, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Silica, Diamond Powder, Sorbic Acid, Sodium Dehydroacetate. May Contain (+/-): Bismuth Oxychloride (Ci 77163), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492).

How I use it

I bought the mini powder because with my skin tone, I outright refuse to drop $46.00 on something that may or may not work for my skin tone. I empty a bit of the powder on my CosmoCube Mixing Palette before applying with a brush or makeup sponge. I use this powder not only to set my under-eye concealer but also that space in my smile lines that tends to oil up, the center of my chin, and the space between my brows.

What I like about it

  • The finish: Does not crease and I am convinced that it works for every skin tone.
  • The size options: there is a mini option for $20 and a full size one for $46. The mini will last a long time but once you run out you will suck your teeth and pout that you now have to go and buy another one because it’s so pretty.
  • The quality and texture: The packaging is classic classy Hourglass and the powder is very sophisticated and fine.

What could be better

Honestly, I am quite happy that the option of a smaller size for $20 is available. As far as quality, it is worth it, and it will still take you quite some time to run out. Therefore, I don’t have any complaints.
