Tyra Beauty 2-Minute TYOver: Sculpt in a Stick Face Contour & Light in a Stick Highlighter | Photos | Swatches | Review

I have been wanting to try some of the products in Tyra Banks’s new cosmetics line and was so excited when my sister dropped the Sculpt in a Stick and the Light in a Stick on my counter. Eyes lit up like fire; it was like she read my mind. I was very excited to try them out and ended up putting it on the same day.

The Sculpt in a Stick and the Light in a Stick are exactly what they sound like: a contour stick for sculpting and a highlighter for highlighting. They can be purchased (I saw them on HSN) separately for $24.00 and $26.00 respectively, or as a set for $35.00, collectively called TYRA 2-Minute TYover. The Sculpt in a Stick I received is in the shade Deep and the Light in a Stick is available in SINsational City

To make a long story short, neither of these worked for me. The Sculpt in a Stick isn’t dark enough and the Light in a Stick applies patchy. The idea is ease and convenience but even trying to blend the highlighter out with my fingers, I ran into problems. I could probably use this as a highlight for my brow bone, but not on my face.

I really love that they are in stick form — it would be even cooler is one side was a sculpting stick and the other side a highlighter. But the fact is, the darkest color isn’t dark enough! Which is very curious as a beauty line from a WOC. It literally was the same color as my skin tone (MUFE HD Foundation 178, MUFE Mat Velvet+ Foundation 85, MAC NC50 (?) <– an approximation; never owned a Mac foundation). The sculpting stick would probably work better for lighter and fairer skin tones.

I really want to support Ty Ty, I really do! I have always admired her and she was a model when being a model was aspirational — heck I wanted to be one for a long time and she was definitely part of that reason! But… I think something needs to happen with the formula of the highlighter and more versatile shades in the sculpting stick before that happens. Or maybe something else all together! These didn’t work for me but I am looking forward to seeing what else she puts out there.
