Review: ColourPop Ultra Blotted Lips | Doozy, Split

By now, everyone that loves lipstick has heard about ColourPop’s Ultra Blotted Lips. I was very excited to try them out, and even took one of the colors with me to Turks & Caicos. The formula is supposed to be a lightweight, transfer-proof matte formula. There are eight colors and I bought two of them. I found that the experience with the Ultra Blotted Lip depends on the color, similar to the Ultra Mattes. I decided on the colors Doozy and Split.

My skin type

My lips are naturally dry. I use lip balm before using these Ultra Blotted Lips and I suggest you do the same.

How I use it

I dip the doe-foot wand in the applicator two or three times and apply the color to my lips. It’s important to get the coverage you want on these before they dry down. I think these are more of a lip tint than a liquid lipstick, but you can certainly consider them as such since they can be built up to be opaque.

What I like about it

I like that I barely feel like I am wearing lipstick and that it lasts a very long time. I was in the ocean with Split and my lips were still flawlessly painted. Overall, I prefer Doozy over Split because it is easier to work with.

What could be better

The kicker with these is that you need to get it fully opaque before it dries down. Once it dries down, applying over the lipstick becomes a problem – it starts separating, falls apart, and gets all crumbly.

Another thing I noticed is that applying these without lip balm is a no-go for me. They are way too drying on their own. I tried applying lip balm over the color, but that resulted in tiny crumbles.

Joy Factor

On a scale of 1-10, the Ultra Blotted Lips are a 6. Every other lip product I have from ColourPop is easier to work with, and therefore bring me more joy. I will say that the staying power on these, especially Split, is impressive.

Where to indulge
