Review: Sephora Collection Bronzer Powder Canary Islands (Dark)

Bronzer, you shall not defeat me!

I am often super reminiscent of a bronzer I purchased from Victoria’s Secret many, many eons ago. It was everything I looked for in a bronzer! It gave me a gorgeous glow and I was darker than I am now, as I was living in Miami and was two shades darker all-year-round! I have yet to find a match for the glory that was that bronzer. I purchased the Sephora Collection Bronzer in Canary Islands, the darkest color available, after it sat in my cart for months. Plus, it was on sale for $11.00! I bought this and initially began testing it in March, when I hadn’t yet gotten my summer chocolate on.

My skin type

Oily

What it’s supposed to do

Provide a healthy, “tanned” glow. This obviously means different things to different people. In all honesty, I didn’t read too much into the description of the product, but was lured in by the design.

Ingredients

Talc, CI 77491 (Iron Oxides), Mica, Corn Starch, Zinc Stearate, CI 77492 (Iron Oxides), Dimethicone, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Silica, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Hexylene Glycol, Nylon-12, Fragrance, Lauroyl Lysine, Diisostearyl Malate, Tin Oxide, Linalool, Amyl Cinnamal

How I use it

I load on this powder with a tapered blush brush, buffing the product into the skin on my cheeks.

What I like about it

The sun on the cover of the compact gives me all kinds of summer vibes. I also enjoy the sun design on the bronzer itself. In short, it is beautiful to look at. I can see someone with much lighter skin than mine enjoy the way this bronzer appears on the skin.

What could be better

Well, I want to say the pigmentation, but someone with lighter skin might be ok with the pigmentation. If your skin is as chocolatey as mine, this bronzer will not work as a bronzer for you basically because it doesn’t show up. I was a bit fooled by the shimmer of the bronzer, assuming that I might get more of that aspect from the bronzer, but in natural light (read, in real life) there are only specks of glitter that show up on my face, and very underwhelmingly so in a random, patchy kind of way. Overall, this is a matte bronzer.  Forget about the shimmer you see in the compact.

I would love to see how this fairs (hehe get it?) on fairer skin, especially since this has amazing reviews on Sephora.com.

Joy Factor

On a scale of 1-10, this bronzer is a 3 for me. I like looking at it but it doesn’t fulfill its obligations to my cheeks.
