I have been playing around with the Supergoop 100% Mineral Invincible Setting Powder with SPF45 since the beginning of summer, and I am ready to share my thoughts on it. I bought the powder in the deepest shade (Deep and sometimes referred to as Medium/deep).
My skin type
Oily and imperfect. I have fading dark acne scars and tiny icepick scars on my cheeks.
What it’s supposed to do
From the brand:
Reapply your SPF with a 100% mineral setting powder that mattifies shine and sets makeup. This sweat-resistant, translucent formula smooths skin’s appearance and reduces shine. Brush it on throughout the day for a matte finish and added protection.
Zinc Oxide 24.5%
Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Silica, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Triethoxycaprylysilane, Nylon-6/12, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Olive Glycerides, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Ceramide 3. May Contain +/- Iron Oxides (CI 77492, 77491, 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891)
How I use it
I twist up the cap and spread over my face with the brush. Tilting it too much can cause too much powder to come out, though.
What I like about it
I like that it is an easy and somewhat foolproof way to make people wear sunscreen. When it’s viewed as a setting powder, I think of it more as a part of my makeup routine instead of my skincare one, which makes me more likely to use it. I don’t think I have ever tried a mineral sunscreen but I am curious as to how and if I am actually getting sun protection when wearing this. I also like that I can just wear this on its own as well as under or over makeup.
What could be better
The brush is too dense which results in ‘skipping.’ By that I mean the powder is noticeably left on my skin in patches. This makes applying over makeup slightly problematic as well. I remedy this by going over my face with setting powder, as seen in the last three photos above. It becomes more difficult when I am wearing makeup and would need to do this when reapplying as well. Admittedly, I did have higher expectations for this product.
