I Gave Laura Mercier Translucent Powder in Medium Deep a Second Try and I Love It! | Review

It’s no secret that the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder ($38.00) is an industry must-have; many beauty gurus and makeup artists swear by it. Translucent powder has never been something I have been able to get excited about but when the brand came out with a shade for darker-toned ladies, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to try out the powder.

My skin type

Oily. Very oily. I’ve got dark acne scars on my cheeks accompanied by damaged, visible pores.

What it’s supposed to do

Set your makeup so that it lasts longer; absorb oil and reduce shiny skin.

Ingredients

Talc, Magnesium Myristate, Nylon-12, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, EthylhexylPalmitate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Methylparaben, Lauroyl Lysine, Propylparaben, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Butylparaben, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Tocopherol, Methicone. May contain: Ultramarines (Cl 77007), Iron Oxides (Cl 77491, Cl 77492, Cl 77499).

How I use it

I started off using this powder by taking a large powder brush and applying it all over my face, after applying liquid or cream foundation. Suggested use it with the Laura Mercier Velour Puff, but I don’t have that. Using a fluffy powder brush, I didn’t find it very effective at reducing shininess or absorbing oil throughout the day. I decided to switch it up and try it with my Real Techniques Miracle Diamond Sponge (a bit damp) and also, separately, a very dense foundation brush — I am currently using this one from IT Cosmetics and I am absolutely in love with it!

What I like about it

The powder really impressed me when I used either of these, mainly because of the lack of oil I produced throughout the day. It seems like packing it into the skin with something more dense is the key to getting it to work.

I can’t imagine that I will ever run out of this powder. I love that it’s offered in a shade for darker skin tones; I can’t imagine trying to pack the white translucent one on. I don’t think I ever would have tried this powder so I’m glad there’s a darker version! I love when I look in the mirror mid-afternoon and there’s minimal oil on my face, usually in my cheek area. I was giving this powder the side-eye after using it with a powder brush for so long, but once I started using a more dense brush, I fell in love with it!

It’s also great at correcting foundation that isn’t quite your shade!

What could be better

I have zero complaints!

Joy Factor

On a scale of 1-10, this powder is a 10! Just goes to show, sometimes you need to try things out a little bit longer, and in different ways to be able to really see how it works.
