Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Blurring Foundation Powder

I’ve been a fan of Make Up For Ever for as long as I’ve loved makeup. Today, I’m excited to share a new face powder I’ve purchased, Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Blurring Foundation Powder. I purchased the shade 520 – Cinnamon. I’ve been considering cutting back on liquid and cream foundations, mostly because of newly developed skin sensitivity issues, and wanted to try out more foundation powders.

When using this powder, I prep my face in the morning like I normally do. The powder compact comes with a thin sponge to apply the powder, and it works fine, but I prefer to use a dense foundation brush. The only reason it takes a shorter amount of time for me to do my make up using the brush and I find the sponge makes things go on a little patchy. In the photos above, I’m showing how it looks before the foundation powder and after it’s applied on the bottom half of my face.

I have tried this powder in a couple different ways: by itself, which is how I mostly use it and as a setting powder on top of liquid foundation.

The shade 520 – Cinnamon is described as dark with peachy undertones. I did find the shade to be a little bit more red than I was expecting once applied to my face compared to the swatch. I initially bought shade 540, but it was way too dark. So, the shade options aren’t that great, but once you get all your make up together on your face, it turns out just fine. I’m willing to overlook those shortcomings because the powder performs so well. I also really like the compact. It’s large in size, has a mirror, and even though I don’t think I’ll be using the sponge, it was a nice touch.

I tested out the foundation in several environments. I was in an air-conditioned office environment for most of the day using this powder and went out later that day for drinks and didn’t get home until around 10:30. My face wasn’t perfectly powdered, but it was closer to that than anything else I use!

I’ve also worn this powder during all-day outdoor activities where sweating was plentiful. I did need to touch up a couple times because of shininess, but that was to be expected. I didn’t feel like my makeup was caked on at all.
