I know what exactly compelled me to go for the new Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Project Chimps ($20.00): I love Kat’s liquid lipstick line and I also really dig that 20% of the sales go to saving chimps. Nonetheless, I did try to talk myself out of purchasing this up until the day it launched, to no avail. I had to have it.
Project Chimps is described as a warm brick red and has a matte finish.
Everlasting Liquid Lipstick gives you long-lasting wear and highly pigmented color. Its creamy, color-rich formula glides onto lips like a gloss and dries to a true matte finish. Its next-generation formula is infused with comfort-enhancing ingredients, including vitamin E and sunflower seed wax, so you can rock everlasting matte color that leaves your lips feeling comfortable.
I knew I wasn’t crazy. Kat Von D’s liquid lipstick formula is among the best I have ever tried. This new, “next generation” formula has changed that and is inferior, in my opinion, to the original formula. Why? Simply because it doesn’t last as long. I was super surprised — heartbroken almost — that after 5 hours of wear and a light lunch, I caught a glimpse in the mirror and discovered the lipstick had moved… substantially! Especially on the outer corners of my lips.
When I first applied the lipstick in the morning, I noticed that it was a lot more moisturizing than normal. It didn’t cling to my lips as closely or dry down as quickly as it usually does. I didn’t think anything of it until I was reapplying that afternoon. I think those people that despise liquid lipsticks and their drying nature will think this formula is superior. But for me, I always apply lip balm before using Kat’s lipsticks anyway, so that was never a problem for my naturally dry lips. I would much rather have lipstick that stays on my lips all day.
I want to stress that while I really love the color, I’m not a fan of the new formula.
