L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer for Dark Skin | Chestnut vs. Tawny

I’m just going to sit this review of this holy grail concealer right here.

Everybody and their mom has probably tried this concealer before, and I have been using it for some time. I just want to shout to the rooftops how great this concealer is and how crazy affordable it is at the same time!

My skin type

Oily, acne scars on cheeks and chin that are slowly fading.

What it’s supposed to do

Conceal and correct, depending on the shade.

How I use it

I use Chestnut for concealing my acne scars and Tawny for underneath my eyes. In the photos, I demonstrated both on my entire face. Tawny is obviously too light for that so I only use it under my eyes. I can use Chestnut all over my face without any issues. Please note that the photos of me above are a little over-exposed in the After photos so everything appears brighter (my camera was going through a break-up at the time). Chestnut is the perfect match to my skin tone in fall and winter. Now that it’s summer I see chestnut a tad bit light but still extremely workable. Some days, I don’t even bother with foundation (similar to the way I am using my Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer, another holy grail) and just conceal my acne scars and set with powder.

How long I used it

I have been using these concealers for a while. I think I bought my first ones last year. Forever a repurchase!

What I like about it

Hello, the price! The most I have paid for this concealer is $5.00! You can often find them at an even lower price on sale (currently some shades are $2.99 at Walgreens.com)! I love having effective products that are affordable. Also, the formula; it’s almost perfect! I would definitely categorize this as a holy grail concealer. It stays put, never separates, is medium-to-full coverage, and is perfect for my oily skin. I even like the packaging and applicator; no-nonsense, has the brush tip for blending, and you can squeeze out every bit of it.

What could be better

Man, I can’t think of anything bad to say about the product. The only thing I can say that is critical is that the LA Girl Cosmetics website (and maybe Ricky’s) appears to be the only place that carries all of the colors all of the time. I bought mine from Ricky’s in NY but I don’t see Chestnut readily available at stores I can just walk into here in DC, or even online at Ulta or Walgreens. So availability appears to be a problem in some stores.

Joy Factor

On a scale of 1-10, this concealer is a 10, 10, 10!
