ColourPop Blotted Lips ($5.00) are supposed to be a sheer matte formula lipstick that leaves a light-to-medium tint on the lips. What an accurate description! When I first heard about Blotted Lips, I thought they were nothing more than their lippie stix in a smaller package. Nope! I settled on Lexi, a cool-toned red, and Deja Vu a pink-nude.
My skin type
My lips are naturally dry and I usually wear lip balm before any lip product. No exception here.
How I use it
Because my lips are naturally pigmented, I really have to pile the color on. I understand that these are supposed to be tints, but they don’t work that way for me. I wear these as lipsticks.
Performance
The only real issue I have with these is the flimsiness of them. I love the sleek, black packaging, I love the design, and I even love the color payoff and performance. Deja Vu is a very beautiful nude lip on me; it looks like I’m barely wearing any color on my lips, but just enough to liven up my face. Lexi has a softness to it that I love; yes, it’s red lipstick but I feel it makes me look innocent. They transfer a bit on cups but not enough that I need to reapply. However, after eating, I do wipe off and reapply.
The problem is that both of these broke off in the tube at the base of the lipstick (I can literally just take them out of their tube now). I didn’t even realize it had happened until the next time I went to use these.
These aren’t drying or moisturizing and I really really love the look of them. I am just really disappointed they are so flimsy. The thing I like most about ColourPop is the quality of their products even though they are low-cost. I would hate to see a departure from that. I wonder if that’s the reason these only come in three shades?
Joy Factor
On a scale of 1-10, the ColourPop Blotted Lips are actually around an 8. I use them a lot, especially since I am doing more natural looks. I hope ColourPop improves the sturdiness of these if they decide to expand the range.
