If you can believe it, I have a love/hate relationship with highlighters. I love looking at them but I strongly dislike people plastering them all over their face. The reason? Because I never see anybody in real life, walking around on the street like that. I do like the look of it when it’s done right. Everyone likes different things, but I am more for either (1) bringing light to your face so that it’s subtle, and (2) not over-doing it when I am going for a regular cheekbone highlight. I bought the Topshop Glow Stick in Otherworldly ($14.00) because it was white and I was curious as to how it would look on my skin.

My skin type
Oily with larger pores. One of my main issues with cheek products is the tendency for them to get all down in the nooks and crannies of my pores and scars.
How I use it
There are three ways I use this cream highlighter:
- Dab directly on the skin and blend out with fingers. This is the main way I use this highlighter.
- Use a brush to swipe across the top of the highlighter, then apply on the skin
- Swipe across the top of the highlighter with the fingers and apply to face, blending out.
The trick to this highlighter working on my skin is applying a little bit at a time and blending out. I’m not gonna lie, the white highlighter thing kind of makes me hesitant but this wasn’t bad. And the best part is that it lasts all day. I can put this on at 7:30 am and when I get home around 6:30 pm, it’s still on, going strong, and my oily skin hasn’t infiltrated it. The highlighter arrived halfway broken out of the tube when I received it, which was disappointing. As something in stick form, the most important part, aside from performance, is that the stick holds up. So I have to be careful when I use this, lest the stick falls out of the tube.
Another issue I have with the highlighter is that it accentuates my pores. Because I have larger pores, and because of how it’s designed to be applied on your face, I find that the cream highlighter disturbs my foundation when applying, and I end up shrugging it off. Perhaps that wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t have acne scars on my cheeks, but I do. And when the highlighter disturbs the foundation, it removes my coverage so my scars show through. Not a deal breaker, but just noticeable to me.
On a scale of 1-10 this highlighter is a 6. I like that it lasts all day. I thought I would be more excited about this being in stick form, but I received it halfway broken in the tube so… I think this would perform better in a little pot or palette. It did make me not-so-afraid of white highlighters as much.
