Here’s What Happened When I Applied My Setting Powder Before Foundation

So I recently saw a Youtube video of  Jackie Aina praising and applying her setting powder before her foundation. I have never thought to do that and was intrigued so I gave it a shot three days in a row. I thought it might be good at keeping my oil breakouts at bay. Here’s what happened and here’s what I used:

Day 1:

Lorac Light Source Primer

Laura Mercier Setting Powder (not shown in photo above, but reviewed here)

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ Foundation

Becca Ultimate Coverage Concealing Cream

Day 2:

YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer

Laura Mercier Setting Powder

Fiona Stiles Luminous Finish Foundation Concentrate

Nars Radiant Concealer

Day 3:

YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer

Laura Mercier Setting Powder

Julep Beauty Complexion Cushion

Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer

In all three instances, my face was noticeably less oily overall. However, the texture of the powder was emphasized on my face in place of what would just be a bit (or a lot) of shine.

I didn’t like it.

I could actually see the flakes of powder on my face. I would usually pat with powder if I looked oily, but this method just made me feel cakey. Maybe this method would be better for someone with normal or dry skin?

Lesson learned; the grass ain’t always greener! Have you tried this technique before?
